Working on this album was like every day I spent as a boy in the forested wilderness near the old farmhouse that’s way out in the middle-of-nowhere, called Mabel Lake, BC.

I was able to get back to being wild; back to the river rapids; the canyons reaching to outer space; the waterfalls coming down as wild and hard as an ocean falling off the edge of a flat earth (that one’s for you conspiracy theorists); back to the wild weather outdoors; the wild raspberries, gooseberries, moose, big horn sheep up north where Dad took my hunting; the wild adventurers who go out and brave these places year-round.
That’s what I want me music to be like. No cookie cutter homes all neatly in a row down in LA. No symmetrical trees in Central Park. All those domesticated things, those things making us afraid of the mosh pit- they must go. We need to get a whole bunch wilder, and I think that’s why I made Urge Me.

A few more particulars of this EP’s story for the real nerds: lo-fi, progressive roots, and an indie folk with stomp-and-holler. I started working on it in 2020, started releasing it in 2024, and it taught me a lot about the art of production, recording, performance, open-D tuning, God, and the music industry today. In terms of lyrical themes, it has a nice balance of sincere, from-the-heart stuff as well as abstract stuff which will bring you back for another listen.
Shout out to my Dad, who was real wild in life and in his own music-making, and shout out to Martin Shaw, the brilliant English storyteller who made me realize just how domesticated we have become.
